Wickett Pond
Last Updated: 2/2023
Located south of the Millers River, Wendell State Forest covers 7,566 acres of rolling forested hills, streams, ponds, and trails. Purchased in the 1920s the area had been heavily burned during the early 1900s. Some of the park development and most of the road systems are attributed to Civilian Conservation Corps activities in the 1930s.
Ruggles Pond is the main day-use area. This 10 acre pond offers crystal clear water for swimming and fishing. Picnic sites and a ball field with a pavilion are located nearby. There is a small boat launching ramp located at the Northern end of Wickett Pond. The Metacomet - Monadnock Trail traverses the forest boundaries and offers a small Adirondack shelter for trail users.

Fishing
There is no state survey found online. That be said, there are plenty of people that regularly fish this pond. Bass seem to prevail for sport fishing with some large ones caught both winter, ice fishing, and summer.
Description
This small shallow pond is surrounded with beautiful forest. Not a single structure can be seen making it a wilderness experience. Most days you will have this pond to yourself making it an ideal get-away for anyone who needs some time alone.
If you paddle quietly, expect to see all kinds of wildlife! There are beavers on the pond. A beaver house is located about a third of the way down the pond on the east shore. If you hear a loud slap, don't be afraid. A beaver is sending out a warning for other beavers.
