      This managed trout pond is stocked with trout during the spring season. A good number of trout were sample during the survey, indicating good carryover. Largemouth bass provide fair fishing and large bluegills and yellow perch provide good panfishing. 

Description

        Spectacle is an average size two-story pond located in Lancaster just south of Route 2. The shoreline is 75% developed with summer and year round homes. Aquatic weeds are very scant throughout the pond.

Fish Population
  • Last survey 1994
  •  9 species : largemouth bass, chain pickerel, brown trout, rainbow trout, yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, white sucker and banded killifish. The most abundant gamefish are largemouth bass and the most abundant panfish are bluegills.
LANCASTER TOWN BEACH

     
    The Lancaster Town Beach is located at Spectacle Pond, Fire House Road #4, located off Old Union Turnpike.  Spec Pond, as the locals call it, is open each season for eight weeks starting on Saturday, June 24th.
       Fully staffed with certified Lifeguards and parking staff.  The town beach has restroom facilities, picnic tables and a volleyball court. Be on the lookout for special events, activities and private beach rentals are available as well. There are also morning and evening swimming lessons offered.

Boat Launch:
As of this writing, shoreline access is limited to the town beach area on the north end of the pond off of Old Union Road. Only car top boats and canoes can be launched from Labor Day until Memorial Day.​

Put-In Directions (0.7 miles, 2 minutes):
From Exit 35 of Route 2 - Leominster/Lunenburg
  1. If traveling west on Route 2, turn left onto Fort Pond Road.
  2. Turn left onto MA-70 South, pass under the highway, turn left onto Old Union Turnpike. Go to 5 below.

  3. If traveling east on Route 2, after the exit ramp, eep left at the fork to continue toward Old Union Turnpike.
  4. At mile 0.1, turn left onto Old Union Turnpike.
  5. At mile 0.7, arrive at the Lancaster Recreation Beach.
Park outside this entrance near the road.  Carry your boat in.
