Fishing
One of two lovely recreational lakes in Athol (the other is Silver Lake), Lake Ellis offers a great beach and picnic area. Boaters also enjoy the lake (no wakes, please), and anglers aim for bass, pickerel, bluegill and hornpout. Because the Quabbin Anglers Organization stocks trout for their annual ice fishing derby, a summertime line may also pull up a trout.

Description
Each summer the Town of Athol opens two public beaches; one each at Lake Ellis and Silver Lake.  Lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in June, July and August depending on funding and availability of qualified personnel.
